Hello! Welcome to my writing Blog

Hi everyone,

Here goes, my first post. Before I start I should mention that I’m not great at putting myself out there. I don’t like to make mistakes which I do. A lot. So I over-edit. Over proof read (and still don’t find every mistake). Like most writers, I fear the words ‘this is terrible.’ And it holds me back. I’m not a risk taker. So the ultimate torture for me is to post something daily with not much—or any time—to proof read it a thousand times.

Why am I putting myself through this? This thing that’s the opposite of my nature. Me who had to force myself to talk at least once in zoom sessions? Me who likes to know ALL the steps before doing something? When I know next to nothing about blogging? Easy, it’s what writers do.

It’s the ultimate vulnerability to send your book into the world when taste is so subjective that you are guaranteed there will be a section of people who hate it. Readers who point out all your plotting problems, pacing issues, lack of emotion. You name it, there’s probably someone out there who hates it and if you’re lucky there’s another person out there who loves it.

Books engender both love and hate. That’s a fact. If you want the love you have to be ready for the hate. Like Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarro which I loved. You can find on youtube, people who adored it AND people who hated it.

As a writer, I can’t care about my mistakes and being perfect and doing it right and making everyone love my work. I’ll never know all the steps, not in writing, not in blogging so I’ve decided to be reckless and put myself out there every day.

What will this blog entail? Basically, I’m going to write a post after I’ve finished writing every day. I’ll cover what I did that day, any craft ideas that struck me while writing and what kind of road blocks I hit. What went well. What didn’t. It seems like a lot to post every evening, and I might be crazy to try it, but here goes.

Wish me luck,

Joanne.
