Adequacy
Hi everyone,
The page of interest today is 136. There is micro-tension on this page but it’s a little weak because it focuses more on one emotion rather than on two.
I made the conflict more explicit. I added 14 words to make the micro-tension more obvious: independence v’s dependence (asking for help.) My main character has to learn to lean on other people, so it makes sense that she has conflict about it here. Because it’s early on in the book, she chooses independence. Later, she will change her mind. This will be a turning point for her-learning to ask for help-but this change is not on this page.

The micro-tension on this page is friction between people. Katniss is torn between feeling like she’s been used and the advantage this gives her. She is also waging a mini internal war between a feeling of inadequacy v’s adequacy.

The micro-tension on this page is from discovery. The discovery doesn’t make me feel uneasy, but it is interesting. I’m not sure if it counts. The backstory does shine a light on the present and is also interesting. Not sure interesting is micro-tension, though. But discovery is, so this is borderline. But I’ll give it to her because it’s not boring, and I do want to know.
That’s it. I had a busy day doing non-writing stuff, so I didn’t get much else done. I did watch Brandon Sanderson’s lecture #5 of his newest lecture series on character.
Well, good night.
See you tomorrow.
Happy writing.
Joanne.
